About the Area

Nestled in the picturesque village of Tansley with spectacular views over Matlock, Derbyshire is this delightful five-bedroom holiday home, Oakwood House. Offering the perfect blend of comfort, style and tranquillity, Oakwood House welcomes families and groups of friends alike seeking to explore this pretty region. As you enter your new abode, be greeted by two fabulously-appointed ground-floor bedrooms, each with their own bathroom so you can get ready or wind down for the day in style. Ascend the stairs to the living spaces, consisting of a well-equipped kitchen with all the necessary appliances required to ease your self-catered stay, a dining room and a sitting room, complete with a Smart TV where you can relish movie marathons on cooler evenings.

After rustling up a tasty home-cooked meal, settle down at the dining table, pouring the wine as conversation flows; alternatively, why not make the most of the enclosed garden to delight in an alfresco affair, popping corks until the sun sets in the distance. When sleep calls, find three further bedrooms on the second-floor, once again featuring their own en-suite shower rooms and plenty of storage to house your holiday wardrobe; settle in for the evening and unwind, ready to slope off into a relaxing slumber.

When you want to explore, head to the picturesque village of Tansley, known for its charming cottages, scenic countryside and friendly atmosphere where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll after your morning coffee or pop for an evening drink at The Gate Inn. For history enthusiasts, head to Chatsworth House, one of the country’s most magnificent stately homes where you can marvel at its grandiose architecture, explore beautiful gardens and immerse yourself in the rich heritage of the estate.

Spend the day in the vibrant town of Matlock, home to an array of shops, cafes and restaurants, as well as the Heights of Abraham Cable car and Gulliver’s Kingdom theme park or venture into the Peak District National Park for a plethora of walking, hiking and cycling opportunities guaranteed to keep you occupied for the duration of your stay.

The popular Peak District town of Matlock, together with its neighbour, Matlock Bath, has been attracting visitors to the area since the spa was developed in the late 17th century. Set in the beautiful wooded gorge of the River Derwent, the Matlocks offer a range of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as a host of attractions including Gulliver’s Kingdom and the Peak District Mining Museum. Magnificent views down the gorge can be enjoyed from the cable car which takes visitors up to the Heights of Abraham – a great place for all the family with its showcaves, nature trail, water gardens and Owl Maze. South of the town is the start of the High Peak Cycle Trail, whilst a short drive away is the National Tramway Museum at Crich. To the north are the market town of Bakewell and Chatsworth House and Park – not to be missed!
